AN adventurous 10-year-old battled torrential weather to conquer Britain's tallest mountain in a fundraising effort for a Wyre Forest charity.

Sam Timney set off to climb Ben Nevis with his scout leader dad Joseph on Wednesday August 14, raising just over £400 for KEMP Hospice.

The intrepid youngster reached the peak of Snowdon last year and wanted to set himself another challenging feat.

Sam and his family spent ten days in a motor home before making the trek, setting off at 5am on the morning.

The youngster braved a difficult trek with reduced visibility at around 5m, but Sam continued to persevere with his dad.

It took just under four hours for the two to reach the peak.

Joseph said: "Sam completed this challenge in atrocious weather conditions of high winds, rain and thick cloud but was determined to achieve his goal of reaching the summit and to raise money for KEMP Hospice.

"We set off at 5am in the morning and came off the path completely at one point. It was a real struggle for him – he was sick halfway up.

"It wasn't easy - he kept going and he never gave up."

Joseph also says that Sam chose the charity as it is "close to his heart, having lost his grandad from cancer who he sadly never met."

Sam said: "It was great, but really cold. This year was more rainier and foggier than at Snowdon last year.

"Next time I want to climb Scafell Pike."
