MORE than 800 students from Kidderminster’s King Charles I School raised in excess of £8,500 in a Race for Life for Cancer Research UK.

Youngsters aged 11 to 18 completed the 5km course around the school site by either running, jogging or walking.

Teacher Jon Males said: “It was amazing to see our students raise such a significant amount of money to help cure a disease that affects nearly every family in the country.

“We would like to thank all parents, carers and family members for supporting the event and for being so generous with their donations. All our students should be proud of the effort they put in to both raising money and completing the 5km course itself. ”

Cancer Research UK local fundraising manager Maureen Mason and David Smith from its Wyre Forest committee also visited the school to raise awareness about work being done in helping prevent cancer, supporting and treating those who have the disease.
