A KIDDERMINSTER-based karate club is celebrating after being named Club of the Year at a sports awards ceremony.
Young Gloves Karate Club came home victorious from the Wyre Forest District Council Sports Awards which was held at Kidderminster Town Hall on Tuesday (January 21).
The club, which holds classes in Kidderminster, Stourport, Bewdley and Stourbridge, is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Over 250 students form the club and over the years they have received awards and medals after competing in local, national and international competitions.
Sensei Justin Thomas said: "We have had our fair share of awards but we never expect them.
"This is a really great boost for us. I'm really conscious that this is a club award.
"This goes to the 250 students that we have and their mums and dads and supporters.
"It was a fantastic night."
Members from the club have taken part in various charity events throughout the year, such as inter-club competitions, world record attempts and other sporting events, raising £70,000 for local children's charities.
The club's 2019 charity was Leap Gate, which is a disabled activity centre on Wilden Lane, Stourport.
The club now aim to raise £10,000 this year for the "Smile For Joel" charity as well as enter more karate competitions.
