THE February lunch meeting of the Probus Club of Stourbridge was held on 17 February at Stourbridge Rugby Club.

Members and guests again enjoyed the facilities and services provided by the Rugby Club for our second meeting at this venue. Our after-dinner speaker was Melvyn Thompson. Melvyn had spoken to the club on previous occasions on the history of the Kidderminster carpet industry.

This month his illustrated talk took us on a virtual magic carpet tour to the Orient where we shown designs, techniques and history of knotted carpets from Persia, Turkey and the Caucasus.

Although the knotted carpet methods were not widely adopted in England, Oriental carpets are still quite widely used and displayed in prestigious buildings and stately homes throughout the UK.

Our president Bernard George announced that our next lunch meeting for members will be on Tuesday 17 March at Stourbridge Rugby Club when club member Chris Baker will talk on the subject ‘Examinations are Dangerous’.

Visitors are invited to join us for this event.
