WASN’T it wonderful in Stourbridge on Saturday? (Glass Festival) - High St closed off to traffic, lots of stalls and some really good street music and children's events.

Lots of space and goodwill for all and not being cowed into squeezing on to the pavement in front of the tyranny and implicit threat of all the cars normally running through.

There was a really fine jazz/gypsy string trio called Fret and Fiddle playing so I bought a tea at the cafe and listened to them, without motor noises intruding.

This is the way it should be permanently closed off to all but delivery traffic (who do the job early and late of course). Forget the Waitrose shoppers who just have to park right in front of the Ryemarket.

I've all but cut out Waitrose now and instead use the organic veg shop and market stalls where you know people are getting a fair price for their hard work.

Shops like Waitrose always do a home delivery service for the disabled.

I in fact thought this was all already under discussion - what is the state of play with regard to pedestrianisation of Stourbridge High St?
