A FIRE has broken out at an industrial estate in Brierley Hill.

Fire crews were called to the scene of a "severe" fire at Miller's Roofing on the Premier Industrial estate in Leys Road today (Sunday October 18) at around 8.30am.

Four fire engines from Stourbridge, Dudley, Haden Cross and Brierley Hill are fighting the flames, with the use of a hydraulic platform.

Residents living nearby have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed with others advised to avoid the area.

Fire investigators are interviewing local residents and workers from other premises to establish the cause.

CCTV in the local area will also be examined.

West Midlands Fire Service tweeted about the incident that "Crews from @WMFSStourbridge @WMFSDudley @WMFSHadenCross and Brierley Hill are attending a fire at Leys Road Industrial Estate, Brierley Hill.

Dean Harris, Technical Rescue Unit station commander for West Midlands Fire Service, said when crews arrived the fire had spread to the roof so firefighters immediately used the hydraulic platform.

He said at 11am: "The fire is surrounded and under control and we are now identifying any hot spots.

"Environmental Protection have been informed and residents advised to keep their windows and doors shut due to the amount of smoke, but that has subsided to some degree as we take more control."

He said that a structural engineer has been called to assess the building, as there has been "partial collapse" and that an investigation was underway into the cause of the fire, with CCTV available to be examined.

He said the incident came in as a 999 call.
