A TEENAGE boy has been detained on suspicion of dangerous driving after a crash in Pensnett.

A car smashed into another car on Commonside at around 11.41am this morning (Tuesday January 19).

Police said a 16-year-old boy was detained on suspicion of dangerous driving, possession of cannabis and driving whilst unfit through drugs.

They said the boy “has been taken to hospital for assessment and will be questioned in due course.”

The car had been spotted by a passing police car just before the accident and the circumstances of the collision are being investigated.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We’ve arrested a teenage boy following a collision in Bryce Road, Pensnett, just before 11.45am today (19 January).

“A car hit another vehicle and a 16-year-old boy was detained on suspicion of dangerous driving, possession of cannabis and driving whilst unfit through drugs. He has been taken to hospital for assessment and will be questioned in due course.

“A passenger was also taken to hospital with a leg injury.

“The vehicle had been spotted by a passing patrol car just beforehand and the full circumstances of the collision are now being investigated.

“The force’s Professional Standards Department has been informed, as is routine in such matters.”

Medics were at the scene with the road closed off.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said a teenage boy suffered “potentially serious injuries” and that three people from the two cars involved were assessed by paramedics, with two taken to hospital.

A spokesman said: "Three ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

"Three occupants from the two cars involved required assessment on scene.

"A teenage boy suffered potentially serious injuries and was treated on scene before being taken to Russells Hall Hospital.

"A second patient was also conveyed to hospital."

The road was closed by police while emergency services dealt with the scene.
