STOURBRIDGE attempt to rekindle their love affair with the FA Cup this week when they embark on another campaign in the world's most famous football competition.

The Glassboys travel to Total Motion Midland League side Highgate United on Saturday in the First Qualifying Round and boss Gary Hackett insists the competition excites him as much as ever.

Past glories against the likes of Plymouth Argyle and Northampton Town remain fresh in the minds off all Glassboys supporters and Hackett admits: "It's a competition that has helped put Stourbridge on the map.

"When the competition comes around, there's a different buzz about the place and once you have tasted success, you always want more."

But Hackett isn't getting carried away and warned: "Make no mistake, Highgate represents a tricky fixture. They are flying high at the moment in their league and we cannot afford to take them lightly."

The Glassboys will be boosted after making the long distance trip to Kings Lynn last Saturday and returning with maximum points courtesy of a solitary 43rd minute Aaron Forde goal.

The result has taken the Glassboys up to fourth place in the Southern League Central Division.

A delighted Hackett enthused: "We looked very solid defensively and the margin of victory could have been a bit more emphatic.

But I'll take three points at Kings Lynn anytime. Although they haven't made the best of starts, it's always a difficult place to go.

"Despite the long trip to East Anglia, it's much more preferable than going up the M6 and onto the North East. This league suits us much better."

Hackett added to his squad this week by snapping up wideman Chekaine Steele from National League North side Leamington.

Previously with Port Vale, Hednesford and Sutton Coldfield Town, Checkaine had found his chances limited at Leamington owing to their good start to the season.

Hackett confirmed: "I've seen it said elsewhere that Chekaine is a loan player, when in fact he is our player but has signed duel registration with Leamington.

Apart from that, I'm perfectly happy with the squad of players that I've got. I'm not looking to bring anyone else in at the moment."
