WOLLASTON Lawn Tennis Club (WLTC) produced another day of top quality tennis in Sunday's finals day of its 2018 Annual Club Championships.

More than six hours of tennis saw nine adult finals and two junior finals all being contested at the Prestwood Drive club.

Adam Tranter won his second men's singles championship, overcoming first-time finalist Elliot Barnbrook in straight sets.

The ladies singles final was a repeat of last years final. This time Emily White won through a tight final against last year's winner Jane Fox, but not before a tight championship tie break decider. This was only the second time that 17-year-old Emily had entered the senior championships.

The men's doubles final was won by Colin Brown and Richard Such. Colin and Richard have lost in the last two years finals but were able to overcome Chris Brown and Will James and whilst this was in straight sets, it was a very close match.

The ladies' doubles was won again by Hannah Didlock, this time with partner Yvonne Tivey. Hannah and Yvonne proved too much for Katy Waterhouse and Bec Yates, winning in straight sets.

The mixed final saw Adam Tranter and Katy Waterhouse beat Adam James and Hannah Didlock in a close, entertaining battle, winning a Championship tie-break decider by the narrowest of margins.

In the Plate tournament, Dave Tranter took the men's singles final 6-4, 6-3 against Paul Wootton. This was the second time he has won the final.

The men's doubles plate was won again by Adam James, this time partnered by Elliot Barnbook, beating Kevan Ashmore and Jo Miskin in straight sets.

In the ladies' doubles, Lou Cornell and Emily White beat Jane Fox and Suzanne Killalea in straight sets and the mixed plate was won by Chris Brown and Amy Fellows, who beat Elliot Barnbrook and Anita Shinton in close but straight sets victory.

In the Junior competition, Charlie Nichols won the junior boys' final against Tom Pearson with some great tennis played in difficult conditions. Emily White won the senior girls' competition with a straight sets victory against Alex Solecki.

Tournament organiser Max Bywater said: "This was another successful club championships. The club is always extra busy at this time of the year, as almost 100 matches are played throughout the tournament.

"Despite the windy conditions we had over six hours of quality, competitive tennis played in a great spirit both with the junior and adult finals. It is always one of the highlights of the year."
