ASHLEY Vincent has thrown down the gauntlet to Worcester City’s back-up brigade after confirming plans to ring the changes at Pershore Town tonight (7.45).

The fixture marks the first-team’s bow in the Worcestershire Senior Urn with the rule set to be run over some fresh faces in a competitive environment.

City head into the quarter-final clash on the back of a 14-match unbeaten run in all competitions and despite planning to alter the personnel, assistant manager Vincent wants to see pride in defending that record.

“Whatever team goes there I expect the same effort, application and quality to show as Saturday,” he said.

“Whether we see that is another matter. It will probably be a totally different side but this is a club and we’re trying to hammer home the standards to the boys on the bench and the younger players who feel they should be a part of the starting XI.

“They will have the chance to prove they are more than willing to match the effort levels because we already know they have the quality.”

Striker Nick Turton, a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Ilkeston Town, could make his first start of a season blighted by a knee injury.

Josh Hesson and Kyonn Evans featured for City’s reserves on Saturday and seem set for a chance to gain valuable minutes alongside Adam Osbourne, Joe Bates and Liam Lockett. Goalkeeper Sam Gilder is set to start.

“I would love to see Turts play for an extended time,” said Vincent.

“He was excellent when he came on against Ilkeston. As expected, he gave us a bit of something we lack and I would like to see him get some minutes. That will depend on his work commitments.

“Josh played for the reserves on Saturday and I would like to see the effort levels from him.

“Kyonn also got some game time away from the first team at the weekend, partly for confidence and wanted to do that off his own back which was great to see.

“The boys who were on the bench on Saturday will get some time and then we’ll mix it with some of the younger faces. We know what they can do, I just want to see whether they have the appetite.”

The competition is for teams that played at steps five and six last season, meaning Bromsgrove Sporting make the cut.

Highgate United host Malvern Town tomorrow with Stourport Swifts entertaining Sporting and Bewdley Town welcoming Studley in the other last-eight ties next Tuesday (all 7.45).

Drawn matches go straight to kicks from the penalty mark after 90 minutes with no extra-time.
