How they rated:

Halesowen 1, Royston 0

Platt: Did really well to make some key saves when required, especially at the end of the first half as Royston pressed. 7.

Curley: Got forward well all afternoon and worked his side’s first chance early in the first half. 6.5 Kelly: Not as involved as fellow full-back Curley but did make a fine clearance in the second half following a breakaway effort from Gordon. 6.

Mendez-Jones: Defended well and nearly headed his side ahead from a corner in the second half. Solid. 6.

Morris: Towering performance from the centre back. Defended well but also posed a big threat in the opposite box. Bagged his side’s winner late on. 8.

Griffiths: Another solid showing from the third Yeltz central back. 6.

Rea: An accomplished and hardworking display from the skipper. Always snapping into challenges and working to position himself well in the middle. 7.5 Murphy: Worked hard in the engine room but didn’t have the impact he’d like. 6.

Hughes: Struggled to get involved, especially against the early Royston high line. Struggled to get supply before being replaced in the second half by Dan Sweeney. 6.

Wright: Another who worked hard to lead the line without much reward. Did test keeper Welch with one first half effort. Linked up well with Sweeney late on. 7.

Taylor: Struggled to have an impact in the first half but did better in the second. His corner led to Morris’ winner. 7.

Subs:

Sweeney: Added some much needed mobility to the Yeltz attack late on. Had a deflected free-kick saved. 7.

Weir: Late replacement as Hales held on for the win. N/A.

Fitzpatrick: Replaced Murphy to add some fresh legs to the midfield. 6.

Unused subs: Gilpin, Hill.
