CRADLEY stars Max Clegg and Tom Brennan have vowed to fight it out for the number one spot in the side.

The Anchor Logistics Heathens officially kicked off their campaign at a press and practice day with the hot prospects going head-to-head.

It promises to be a fierce clash between the pair as they prepare to face Mildenhall in their opening meeting on May 6 at Monmore Green.

Clegg admitted: “I’ve got the number one racejacket and that’s how it will stay. I don’t intend to give it up for anyone.

“I’ve got so much to prove right now. But in this league I believe I’m a No.1 no matter what anyone else says.

“I’m not bothered about the rivalry thing. It’s probably good for the team for us both to be hungry for points.”

Young Sussex star Brennan, 17, won the National League double with Eastbourne last season and wants more glory.

He added: “It’s time I stepped up to the top spot in the team. I know Max has it for now but not for long. I’m going to fight to be number one.

“I had a great season with Eastbourne a year ago and now I want to be hard to beat in this league and I think I can be.”

The full squad lined up with Clegg, Brennan, Danny Halsey, Luke Harris, Lewis Whitmore, Harry McGurk and Tom Spencer.

Team boss Will Pottinger said: “It’s good to see the boys so hungry for success. I think this is a great set of lads and we’re in for a excellent season.”
