MANAGER Ashley Vincent insists there is room for both of his left-backs to start after Adam Osbourne agreed terms to return to Worcester City.

Signed following his release from Wolves in August 2018, Osbourne made 13 appearances in blue and white and scored a memorable goal in the 6-1 demolition of Dunkirk.

He left in November to join Midland Football League Premier Division rivals Sporting Khalsa, citing reduced travelling as his reason but made only nine starts.

Having dual registered with Wolverhampton Casuals, Osbourne finished the campaign with a medal thanks to his substitute appearance in a 2-0 West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division Cup final victory over Bewdley Town.

He joins Jamie Smith in competing for a place in Vincent’s starting XI but the boss is looking for both to offer flexibility.

“I have two players who can compete but it will be no surprise to anyone if both are on the pitch at the same time,” said Vincent.

“That is something we have looked at with the players already here and the ones we’re looking to bring in, we will need that versatility because we are not able to bring in two for every position.

“Some will have to play different positions, I am happy with that and so are they.

“We went through that really good run at the start of last season and Ossie was a major part of that.

“He was probably a bit unfortunate to come out of the side but was always earmarked as someone with the potential to play a lot higher.

“Tactically, he knows the game but similar to lads like Josh Willis and some of the others, he needs that experience of playing week in week out.

“I am not promising him that, I wouldn’t promise that to a 30-year-old but what I have said is that he has an opportunity here and if he is the best player in his position then he will play.

“That is striking a chord with a lot of people, it is a level playing field and people know they will play if they perform.”

Osbourne is the first to commit from outside of City’s existing squad with Vincent fervently working on more.

“We are actively trying to get the players in to improve and play in an assertive, high-tempo way,” added Vincent.

“We are talking to four or five players and have a list which goes beyond that but we have to do what’s right for Worcester City and it has to fit with the boys we have and allowing them to develop.

“Some we are close to, with others we are just seeing where it goes.

“There is a lot of work going on in the background, we are very active.”

The club has confirmed tonight that striker Kyonn Evans will not be returning next season.
