WOLLASTON Tennis Club celebrated championship title success as its mixed team topped division two of the Kidderminster League by the narrowest of margins.

The team, unbeaten through the entire season, had to win their last two matches by four rubbers to nil to take the title. In the last match of the season, the team travelled to league leaders Kidderminster and managed the required 4-0 win, including two championship tie breaks to take the top spot in dramatic fashion.

The team, which is run very much on a squad basis, saw 12 different players representing Wollaston throughout the season.

Chairman Alan Hughes said: "We are delighted to see our mixed team achieve this success and look forward to competing at the next level next season. Congratulations to all concerned."

The club has seen significant investment in 2018 with four brand new all-weather courts with state-of-the-art floodlighting, thanks to financial grant funding by Enovert Community Trust and Ibstock Enovert Trust. The club offers tennis throughout the year, with the new upgraded courts complimenting the other four modern courts that they already have. They are all specially designed to provide good tennis in all weather conditions and provide a safe surface on which to run, even on cold days. The new floodlighting means that players can also enjoy using the courts on dark winter nights
