Regional Cyclo Cross Championships held last weekend.

Originally scheduled to be at Buttonoak, Bewdley the event was transferred to Top Barn near Worcester due to waterlogging on the original course.

The University of Worcester Lakeside Campus has been used on several occasions before and in the past has led to fast racing.

However, on this occasion a new parcours, organised by Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club, included several running sections through mud and steep banks to test rider’s strength.

National Champion Simon Wyllie, after a string of international races representing Great Britain, was forced to withdraw due to illness.

Josh Field, who is currently leading the West Midlands Series was hampered by mechanical problems exacerbated by the muddy conditions but nevertheless fought his way to take silver.

This weekend sees the final round of the National Series in York where Simon Wyllie and David Hird will both be representing Halesowen.
