It was raining goals on the second weekend of the new Beacon Sunday League season with no fewer than 50 scored in the Paycare Development Division alone, writes Simon Cater.

Sedgley Rangers hit six for a second successive weekend, with an emphatic 6-2 triumph over newcomers Sedgley & Gornal United East. Opening up a 2-0 half time advantage, Rangers netted maximum points from both their fixtures thanks to Ste Garbett, Alex Pinches, Jordan Robinson, Josh Morris, Ashley Sadlier and new signing Jermelle Banner. Goals from Dan Creswell and Jack Merrick provided scant consolation for the visitors.

Neighbours, Sedgley & Gornal United West fared much better, but needed four second half strikes to end the challenge of Hagley United. Kian Harding, Harry Haden-Curtis, Kie Houlihan and James Newnham provided a welcome three points.

AFC Willenhall picked up their first points following a 5-2 success over Sedgley White Lions West. Mitchell Wenlock and Liam Groucutt helped themselves to doubles with Chad Bayley completing the scoring.

There was a nine-goal thriller between Gornal Rangers and Brandhall Colts with the former taking the spoils in the 5-4 outcome. A Kyle Armstrong treble and a single strike from Liam Jones kept Colts in contention, but a double for Liam Cullen and further goals from Ty Markland, Jay Fitzpatrick and Callum Weston were enough for Gornal to register their second successive victory.

AFC Goldthorne fought back to earn a share of the spoils at Lane Head Titans. Lewis Shield had given the Titans the lead from the penalty spot before Reece Wilson extended their lead. However, George Gough narrowed the deficit going into the half time interval and Reece Lowe popped up with the all-important equaliser.

Luke Oakley was bang in form as AFC Bloxwich opened their account for the season, hitting Wombourne Athletic for six! Oakley steered home a hat-trick and was well supported by Thomas Jackson, Liam Parton and Reece Berry. Morgan McConnell, Tom Hartlebury and Alex Lowe fired home Wombourne's replies.

Seasoned campaigners, AFC Sporting Gornal picked up a first win of the new campaign by the odd goal in five at Kewford Eagles West. Luke Chapman, Edward Tomkins and Jordan Norris found the target - Daniel Ross and Jacob Reeves, with the last kick of the game replying for the hosts.

Sporting Black Country and Bushbury Hill registered their first points on the board following a 2-2 draw. Things could have been so much better for Bushbury though as they led 2-0 through Marcus and Archie Harris, but Jermaine Wilmott had other ideas though and a quick-fire double rescued a point.

Trysull Athletic fought back from 3-1 down to record maximum points from two matches in a cracking encounter against FC Premier U21 in the Concentric Sales & Lettings Beacon Championship.

Phil Howell gave them a 25th minute lead but the visitors were back on level terms five minutes before the break and forged ahead in the second half thanks to goals from Gianni Singh, Curtis Bullock and Reagan Palethorpe - Three goals in a pulsating last 19 minutes from Dan Lloyd Hickman, Jordon Butcher and Steve Rickhuss, who had earlier seen his penalty saved, completed a memorable comeback.

Last season's leading marksman, Rodney Williams was back in the thick of the action as Claregate Park Rangers started their new season with a 4-0 triumph over Codsall Station. Williams helped himself to a hat-trick with Jordan Stevens completed the scoring.

Ryan Benton gave Gunmakers Arms a slender interval lead, but second half injuries and fine finishing saw Netherton Tigers take full advantage and all three points. Luke Fellows found the target with Liam Hickman going one better with a brace.

Two of last season's in-form outfits, Sedgley Sporting and Dudley Rangers United served up a tight, entertaining affair. Tom Tibbits gave reigning champions Sedgley the lead on 67 minutes but Alex Cameron rescued a point with five minutes remaining.

Widdas FC opened up a 3-0 lead over much fancied CTS United and despite Jack Kelly and Tony Agnello making it a nervy last few minutes for the new boys, a late goal ensured a fine 4-2 success. Nathan Guest (2), Brad Mazlan Jones and Jamie Sankey taking the plaudits.
