STOURBRIDGE Ladies rugby team have commenced summer training for their second season in National Challenge Midlands South Two.

The team formed in November 2007 and last season finished fourth in their first every year of playing league rugby, following some exciting wins over Tewkesbury, Old Patesians and Hucclecote.

This year will see them take on the likes of Bridgnorth and Shrewsbury as they aim for promotion to National Challenge One.

The team has the services of three designated coaches and a physiotherapist as they look to establish themselves as one of the Midlands top ladies rugby teams.

Head coach Bill Webb said: “The team and its performance has gone from strength to strength during last season and under the lead of our new captain Helen Simmonds I expect some great results.”

This year a mother and daughter duo will be part of the team as Debbie Harris will be joined by daughter Ellie, who has just turned 18. Players of all abilities are welcome to join in practice on Wednesday evenings at Stourton Park from 6.30pm.
