JAMIE Shillcock is set to make his first competitive appearance of the season when Worcester Warriors visit Stade Francais in their European Challenge Cup opener on Saturday (8pm BST).

The 21-year-old fly-half made 21 outings for Warriors last term with 16 of those coming in the Premiership.

But an injury to his knee resulted in him undergoing surgery last month while Duncan Weir and Jono Lance battled it out for the number 10 jersey.

Shillcock is now looking to stake his claim for the shirt and director of rugby Alan Solomons said the academy graduate “should be ready and good to go for Paris”.

“He has not taken part in a training session but all things being equal he will be able to train fully on Tuesday,” Solomons said.

“Shilly is a good guy and a good team man. He played a lot for us last year and played well. He was also playing really well in pre-season.

“Unfortunately he picked up a bit of an injury and needed a clean-up of that knee which put him out for a wee while.”

Shillcock is part of 56-man squad for the European Challenge Cup that features 14 academy players.

Injured Scotland international Cornell du Preez has also been selected but there is no place for back rowers Alafoti Fa’osiliva and Dewald Potgieter and lock Michael Fatialofa who has yet to arrive at Sixways from New Zealand.
