HEAD coach Rory Duncan hopes Worcester-born England international Ted Hill can become “one of the stalwarts at the club in the future”.

The 19-year-old flanker has put pen to paper on a deal that Duncan revealed would run until the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

Hill has made a sensational start to his career, starring in the Gallagher Premiership and making his England debut in the autumn internationals.

But Duncan is adamant “there is a lot more to come” from the former Worcester Sixth Form College student who has scored five tries in eight appearances this season.

And the Warriors coach is delighted by director of rugby Alan Solomons’ efforts to keep Hill at Sixways.

“Solly has worked really hard at the recruitment and player retention,” Duncan said.

“I am very excited to have a guy like Ted.

“He is obviously one of the up and coming players.

“I have spoken before about the strength of our academy, it is the future of this club and how we are going to build.

“To sign a player of Ted’s calibre is very exciting for myself and everybody involved at the club.”

Hill who joined Warriors’ youth set-up at the age of 14 made his first-team debut in November 2017 before making a name for himself this season.

The teenager burst onto the Premiership scene with a match-winning try in Warriors’ 44-37 victory over Leicester Tigers at Welford Road in September.

Since then Hill has nailed down the number six jersey, earned a call-up to the England squad and won his first cap when he came off the bench against Japan.

Duncan said he had been impressed by how consistent Hill had been this term.

“Ted is a physical unit,” Duncan said.

“He has gone out there and played a number of Premiership games for us.

“He hasn’t stood back since his first match against Leicester.

“He has put a number of tries on the board, his ball carrying ability is second to none and from a defensive perspective he has shown that he has got the stopping power.

“I believe that we have only just hit the tip of the iceberg with Ted as there is a lot more to come in terms of his potential.

“I would like to see him become one of the stalwarts at the club in the future.”
