Talented backs Vicky Laflin and Jade Shekells have given Warriors Women a further boost by extending their stay at Sixways.

Both England Under-20 representatives, the duo bring an expansive attacking game to the fray and follow in the footsteps of fellow backs Lydia Thompson, Meg Varley, Sarah Nicholas and Carys Cox in committing to Warriors.

“It’s very exciting to re-sign along with all the amazing players who have already committed to the club,” said Laflin, aged 20.

“I’ve never felt so confident and comfortable in myself and the team, and I just want to continue to develop and strive for success.”

Laflin, who won the

Tri-Nations with England Under-20s in 2018, took her game to new heights last season and was named Warriors Women’s Most Improved Player after dotting down six times before the campaign was curtailed.

One of those scores came against reigning Premier 15s champions Saracens, a scintillating solo effort which enhanced her reputation as one of the best finishers in the league.

“The environment and coaching staff allow the set-up at Sixways to offer a level of support and expectation to ensure that we aim to reach our potential and be the best of our ability.

“I can’t wait to see what next season has in store for us.”

Shekells went on to represent England

Under-20s after first turning out for Worcester girls and has benefitted from being part of the SSE Next Generation Scheme.

Moving away to Cardiff Met University where she played for the women’s team, Shekells joined Warriors Women last summer and made her Premier 15s debut against Wasps on the opening day of the season.

“I’ve really enjoyed my first season at the club, and it’s helped me find that enjoyment of the game again,” said Shekells, 23, who like Laflin, played in each of Warriors Women’s victories on home turf last season.

“I’m excited to get the season started and continue to develop individually and as a team collectively.”

Warriors Women lead coach Sian Moore is delighted with the progress of the pair, adding: “Vicky and Jade are great representatives of our club.

“Both are skilful players who are exciting to watch, and they are passionate to play in a Warriors shirt, which shows in their performances.”
