OUT-OF-FORM Worcestershire star Moeen Ali has been dropped for England’s second Ashes Test against Australia at Lord’s next week.
Somerset left-arm spinner Jack Leach has come in for Moeen who has been axed after a poor showing in the 251-run defeat to Australia at Edgbaston last week.
Moeen offered unflattering figures of 2-130 from 29 overs containing two 'moon ball' beamers.
His ineffectiveness came under scrutiny after fellow off-spinner Nathan Lyon took 6-49 which helped to lift Australia into a 1-0 lead in the five-Test series.
The all-rounder's recent run of low scores has seen his average dip below 30, prompting England to turn to Leach, whose improbable 92 as a nightwatchman ushered Joe Root's side to victory.
Paceman Jofra Archer has also been included in the 12-man squad as a replacement for James Anderson who has been ruled out with a calf injury.
