DANCING on Ice skated into Birmingham full of drama, glitz, glamour and mesmerizing stunts.

The Live 2010 Tour kicked off its first night in the Midlands in style with skating legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean and the skating professionals opening the show with an amazing circus themed performance - complete with giant trapeze and a big top.

Following the format of the hit ITV1 show, the celebrities performed for audience votes throughout the first half of the two and-a-half- hour show Among the contestants were stars from the current series including champion Hayley Tamaddon, Emily Atack and runner-up Gary Lucy.

But Boyzone’s Mikey Graham was forced to pull out of the show through illness, which left many fans distraught at his absence.

However joining them on the ice this year were also previous champions and runners-up, Ray Quinn, Chris Fountain, Clare Buckfield and Gaynor Faye.

The first half showcased the talents of the celebrity skaters, with impressive dances from Ray and new partner Alexandra Schauman and Clare and Lukasz Rozycki.

Hayley and Dan’s Bollywood ‘jai ho’ routine went down a storm with the audience, but failed to win full scores from the judge Nicky Slater, who seemed to relish in his new Mr Nasty role.

But it was Chris coupled with Brianne Delacourt who provided the wow factor with their stunning routine.

It was fitting these two celebrities won the audience vote to perform the iconic Bolero, for the chance of being crowned champions – with the trophy being handed to Chris by the judges.

The night also featured a special performance by Hollyoaks actor Kieron Richardson and his partner Brianne, which caused much excitement from the crowd, although it would have been nice to have seen more than his one dance during the evening.

Throughout the show the professional skaters also performed some stunning and mesmerizing routines.

But it was husband and wife duo Melanie Lambert and Fred Palascak who stole the show with their jaw-dropping and action packed routine and received a worthy standing ovation from the delighted audience.

Torvill and Dean also proved what legends they are, with a superb and breathtaking updated performance of Bolero, as they flew over the rink suspended on lengths of silk – with not a safety harness in sight.

The show runs at the LG Arena until Monday (May 3) with matinee and evening performances each day.

Tickets are priced from £32.50 - £65 and can be purchased online at theticketfactory.com or by calling 0844 338 8000.
