THE choir of St Thomas's Church in Stourbridge is holding its annual concert next weekend.

Taking place at the Market Street church on Saturday June 21, the Great Choral Favourites concert will feature music by popular composers including Bach's Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, Allegri's Miserere, Stanford's Magnificat in G and Hubert Parry's Hear my Words, ye People.

The choir, which sings weekly at morning and evening services, is one of a diminishing number of all-male choirs in the country.

Musical director Andrew Fletcher said: "The amazing thing is that the programme will be sung by only eight boys and a dozen men - we're still an all-male choir, one of barely a dozen in parish churches throughout the land - but they make a fantastic sound.

"There will be an opportunity for the audience to join in at the concert, so it could be a great chance for any aspiring singers to see what they can do."

Reverend Ron Curtis, vicar of St Thomas's, praised the choir's commitment and dedication in upholding the church's strong musical tradition.

He said: "The repertoire of our choir is phenomenal and the concert will provide a wonderful opportunity to hear the extremely high standard of music being achieved in Stourbridge."

He said money raised from the concert would be used to promote further live music events and a donation would also be made to Cancer Research UK.

The concert starts at 7.30pm Tickets are available on the door, priced £6 with concessions available.
