The four-piece beat off thousands of other hopefuls to scoop the slot on the John Peel stage.

They are now looking forward to winning over festivalgoers with their catchy, hook-laden songs and explosive stage performance.

Front woman Laura, who was last seen competing in the Live and Unsigned South Coast Idol competition, said: "The whole thing is just massive - to be a signed band and play Glastonbury is an amazing thing in itself, but to be an unsigned band and play one of the main stages is just incredible.

"It's probably the biggest thing any of us have ever done and with, potentially, the world watching on TV and over the internet there's a lot of pressure to get it right, but we have all worked so hard that we feel we are more than ready to give the performance of our lives."

The 22-year-old, who quit studying drama at Exeter University to become a professional singer, said the ethos of the band is "all about bringing sexy, sassy, fun rock and roll to brighten the world".

And the former King Edward VI College student said she believes it's about time Britain had a strong female rock vocalist again, adding: "I see my role as an ambassador for female empowerment because the girls can rock it just as good as the boys."

Ahead of their appearance at Glastonbury on Sunday June 29, Psycho Baby will be belting out their trashy pop-rock anthems at The Spotted Dog in Digbeth, Birmingham, on Friday June 13; The Manchester Inn at Romsley on Saturday June 14; and at The Boars Head Tap House, Kidderminster, on Thursday June 19.
