THE Wonder Stuff’s Miles Hunt is looking back to his beginnings for inspiration in his latest project.

After a music career spanning two decades Miles says he is now happy to split his time between the Stourbridge-born band and a range of other projects.

His latest visit to the region will see the singer/songwriter and his regular on stage partner, violin player Erica Nockalls, teaming up with some old friends for a new event called Shared.

The show, at Birmingham’s recently refurbished Town Hall, will feature a line-up packed with names familiar to anyone who has followed music since the 80s.

Stars set to perform acoustic sets at the gig include Wayne Hussey, Roddy Frame, Nick Heyward and Katell Keineg, all people Miles regards as influential on his own career.

Miles said: “Every artist performing at Shared has had a great affect on me, not only as a writer/performer myself, but also as a fan and I take it as an honour that they have accepted my invite.

“Having been given the opportunity to play at the Birmingham Town Hall, I fought off the temptation of simply hogging the limelight and instead felt compelled to invite a gathering of some of the finest players I’ve seen over the years.”

Although most of the performers on the Shared bill can be linked with well-known bands, including The Mission, Aztec Camera and Haircut 100, they are all established solo performers who have continued to write, record and play live.

Miles says he is glad to be a part of this exclusive club, after The Wonder Stuff’s temporary split in 1994 he began what promised to be a successful career as a presenter on MTV Europe.

On the advice of Paul Weller he returned to music and says he is happy to be in “the more considered forum of the acoustic singer/songwriter and raconteur that I now find myself a part of ”.

Shared takes place Friday January 30, tickets are available from the usual outlets.
