Roy Orbison fans will soon be able to add the artist’s first full career-spanning anthology to their collections.

Roy Orbison – The Ultimate Collection will be comprised of 26 tracks covering four decades of his back catalogue, starting from his early days in the 1950s through to his comeback in the 1980s.

The compilation album, which has been created by the late singer’s sons and their company Roy’s Boys LLC, will feature solo efforts and tracks from Roy’s time with supergroup The Traveling Wilburys.

Roy’s son Alex said it was difficult to narrow his father’s works down to such a definitive list.

He said: “It is a great honour for me and my brothers, Wesley and Roy Jr, to finally and definitively distil our father’s entire career on to a single disc as best one can possibly do and, certainly, as never done before.

“It is the result of years of research, archiving and listening, and it is with supreme and heartfelt pleasure that we will be able to share it with the world.”

Roy’s Boys LLC teamed up with Sony Music Entertainment’s catalogue division Legacy Recordings to get the compilation record out there, and it will be available from October 28 on CD and vinyl.

The US singer – best known for his hits Oh, Pretty Woman and Crying, among many others – died of a heart attack in 1988 at the age of 52.
