A NEW regular night of top quality comedy at the Lower High Street venue was launched with the headliner from New Zealand Sully O'Sullivan.

O'Sullivan has performed to audiences all over the UK, Canada and Australia and expertly worked the rowdy Mitre crowd, bringing them into his 30-minute set and being forced to improvise many times due to the banter.

His take on the similarities between New Zealanders and Welsh with regard to stereotyping went down well with the Black Country audience, themselves probably used to being much maligned at times.

Ryan O'Donoghue, Adam Henderson and Lewis Charlesworth provided the support.

Henderson stood out with a high octane, adrenaline filled set which featured well positioned rants on the state of the world with some cutting edge and biting satire and jokes.

If this opening night of the event at the Mitre is anything to go by, comedy fans in Stourbridge are in for a treat over the coming months.

The next headliner is top writer and performer Gary Delaney on Wednesday July 6 and Scottish stand-up Alun Cochrane will be in town for a one-hour show on July 19.
