ENVILLE Street Dramatic Society is gearing up to bring to life classic TV comedy Fawlty Towers.

The Stourbridge based society is staging three much-loved episodes from the popular sitcom about Torquay hoteliers Basil and Sybil Fawlty - Communication Problems, The Builders and The Hotel Inspectors.

University library assistant Simon Cooper is set to star as iconic comedy character Basil Fawlty while accountant Lee Morgan Salcombe will be playing comic Spanish waiter Manuel and both have grown real moustaches for their roles - as part of efforts to look realistic and to support annual charity initiative Movember.

The play will also see trade unionist Sandra Harrold starring as Basil’s wife Sybil Fawlty, opposite her real-life partner Simon Cooper, and Charlotte Picken will play waitress Polly Sherman.

The show will be the society’s first in its new home - Holy Trinity Church Hall at Amblecote, off Vicarage Road.

It will run from Wednesday November 27 to Saturday November 30. Performances start at 7.30pm; there will also be a 2.30pm matinee show on Saturday (November 30).

Society spokeswoman Wendy Hemming said: “We are excited about performing in our new venue which has received lottery funding and now presents as a great performance space for productions such as ours.

“Previously we have had to build a stage before we could build a set – now we have a proscenium arch, red curtains and a proper stage.

“The audience will find the facilities are much more convenient and there is parking.

“We hope this new chapter will give us a fresh start and encourage more people to join us.”
