A MUSICAL trio from Stourbridge have raised £1,000 for a tsunami-hit school in Sri Lanka by taking their talent to the streets.
Three students from Redhill School have been entertaining shoppers by busking at various locations across the town recently, including The Rye Market .
All of the cash raised by Kim Roberts, Hannah Richardson and Zofia Newton has been donated to Moragalla Junior School in Beruwela.
In 2004 a tsunami hit and nine years later, many families are still struggling to live day by day as many of their businesses or places of employment were destroyed.
Redhill's assistant headteacher, Martyn Orton, explained: "These families have no money to send their children to bigger schools, in larger towns, which have resources albeit limited compared to schools here in the UK. "
Mr Orton said the school aims to help the Asian school build a brand new building to accommodate more students and added: "Kim, Hannah and Zofia have used their musical talents to contribute significantly to the amount already raised by the school since the launch of the project this year, taking the total to over £12,000. They also took part in a sponsored silence and sold sweets."
