A WORDSLEY pensioner is performing monologues he memorised as a child, to raise funds for Mary Stevens Hospice.

Graham Fardon, aged 75, is prepared to entertain at lunches and meetings free of charge, but will take a collection bucket with him in case guests wish to make donations to the Oldswinford hospice.

His dramatic and humorous monologues, entitled History for Dummies, give a run-through of numerous historic events including the Battle of Hastings, the signing of the Magna Carta, the beheading of Henry VIII's wife Anne Boleyn and the Battle of Waterloo.

Mr Fardon said: "Although I'm doing it for fun, I thought I'd do it for free and take a collection bucket so I can raise funds for the hospice.

"Even if I only raise a few pounds every little helps."
