MEMBERS of Brierley Hill’s Inner Wheel are dusting down their score cards and getting ready to shortlist entries for this year’s Great Brierley Hill Bake-Off.

The competition is part of the Dudley Council’s St George’s Day celebrations, and following the success of last year’s inaugural bake-off, organisers have called on the women’s voluntary group to help out.

They will be short listing the entries ready for the final judging.

Bakers of all ages are invited to take part in the competition and drop off their entries to the bake-off marquee at the Moor Centre between 9am and 10.15am on Saturday April 26.

There are three categories: fruit cake, sponge cake and cupcake/muffin.

The competition will be judged by the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Alan Finch and his wife Heather.

Short listing and judging will take place from 10.15am to approximately 11.30am and the marquee will be closed off to entrants and members of the public during this time, to make it speedy and fair.

The winner will be announced at around 11.45am.

After cllr Finch has announced the winners, the entries, unless marked otherwise will be sold in a cake sale in aid of his chosen charities, Whitehouse Cancer Support and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Cllr Finch said: “We ran a bake-off for the first time last year and we were overwhelmed with the number and quality of entries.

“ I hope that this year will be even bigger and better and our bakers are able to donate their cakes to the charity cake sale afterwards and help make a difference to local people.”

Entry is on a first come first served basis so competitors must register their interest by sending an email to brierleyhillbakeoff@dudley.gov.uk.
