A MAN who set up a cannabis farm in a bedroom at his Stourbridge home capable of producing enough of the controlled drug to provide over 10,000 spliffs has avoided jail.
The illegal operation set up by 26-year-old Mark Wood at the property in Bredon Close was "quite substantial" - Stuart Clarkson, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court.
He said when police officers searched the house they found 30 adult cannabis plants together with £460 in a glass jar in the living room.
The officers also found other items including a set of scales and a black bin liner containing a small amount of dried cannabis leaves.
Mr Clarkson told the court the cannabis would have been worth up to £25,000 depending on how it was sold.
Wood, an upholsterer at a Stourbridge furniture factory, admitted producing the Class B drug and was given a 14-month jail term suspended for two years.
The Judge further ordered him to carry out 120 hours unpaid work in the community and to pay a £100 victim surcharge.
Mukhtar Ubhi, defending Wood, stressed he had been growing the cannabis purely for his personal use - not to sell to other people.
He said Wood, who was further told he must forfeit the money recovered from his home, had not been living an "elaborate lifestyle".
