PEOPLE across the borough are invited to remember those who gave their lives in the First World War at a church service marking 100 years since the conflict began.
The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Margaret Aston, will be among the civic dignitaries attending a service of commemoration at St Thomas and St Luke Church (Top Church) on Friday August 1.
Reverend Andrew Wickens will lead the service which will allow people to reflect on the sacrifice people made during the Great War.
The service, which starts at 6pm, is one of a number of events organised by Dudley Council to mark the centenary of the beginning of the war.
Councillor Margaret Aston, Mayor of Dudley, said: “I hope people will be able to join me for what promises to be a very moving and thought provoking service.
“Many of these people who gave their lives were from Dudley which is particularly poignant. I’m pleased to see the council continuing its long tradition of remembering the work of the armed forces, especially on this 100 year anniversary since the beginning of World War One.”
Everyone is welcome to attend.
