A PEDMORE teenager has got the clippers out as part of his hair-raising charity bid.
Jack Towers-Evans, 15, has spent the last year growing his long locks just for it to be cut off and donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes real hair wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment.
The Ridgewood High School pupil is part of the Chawn Hill Church youth group which organised for Jack to have the snip during an evening of entertainment.
During the evening, more than £1,000 was also raised in aid of Brain Tumour Research, coming from visitor donations and an auction of Jack’s freshly cut curls.
The group, led by Jack’s sister Clare, also held a raffle where one of the prizes was the opportunity to be handed the scissors to cut Jack’s hair.
Jack said: “I chose the Little Princess Trust because it was the first charity I had heard of that will accept donations of hair.
“However, all of the money raised will go to Brain Tumour Research. I had a distant family member who had been diagnosed with brain tumours and throughout last year I read statistics about brain cancer through facebook updates.
“I was stunned by how little support this charity receives and so decided to raise money for them.”
Jack and the rest of the youth group raised £1,070 for the charity during the evening, including £50 for the final buzz of Jack’s hair, with more money still coming in.
Clare said: “We are all incredibly proud of Jack as well as the rest our young people for all their hard work."
