WITH less than two months to go before voters go to the polls, election fever is already hotting up in Stourbridge.

Campaigning is in full swing - with politicians from across the political spectrum frantically knocking as many doors as they can in a bid to secure those all important votes.

Councillor Pete Lowe, leader of Dudley Council and Labour's hopeful, has even had a beer and a theme song dedicated to his efforts to become Stourbridge's first MP to be born in the constituency.

Kinver Brewery has produced the 4.5 per cent real ale which celebrates not only Pete's campaign but the monthly Born, Bred, Believes social and music nights at Katie Fitzgerald's which he supports.

Lye and Stourbridge North councillor Pete, who is backing CAMRA's campaign to preserve and promote pubs and real ale, said: "I am proud that our Born, Bred, Believes music night has inspired another real ale to be added to an already impressive list."

Stourbridge Labour councillor Ian Marrey, together with Eddy Morton and Trina Keane from Katie's, are behind Pete's election anthem - which was debuted at one of the Born, Bred, Believes nights which are held at the Enville Street pub on the second Thursday of every month.

Meanwhile sitting MP Margot James, who turned Stourbridge back to blue in 2010, has said she's "confident without being complacent" about her chances of being re-elected on May 7.

She said: "There's no room for complacency:" But she added: "I'm delighted with the support I'm getting; the campaign seems to be going well. Stourbridge is a marginal constituency and I respect it as such."

The Conservative MP, who is Parliamentary Private Secretary to William Hague - leader of the House of Commons, added: "I'm really keen to have another term. I'm quite proud of my record as MP for Stourbridge and I've put roots down here."

Commenting on whether she thinks the UKIP factor will be significant in Stourbridge, she said: "UKIP certainly did well in the last local and European election but people consider different issues when it comes to a general election." But she added: "It's not to be dismissed, of course."

And she continued: "I'm concentrating on my own campaign; we're focussing on getting our message across and listening to constituents rather than looking over my shoulder at opponents."

Meanwhile UKIP candidate James Carver's campaign was dealt a blow when his Kidderminster based office was attacked by vandals.

However - the West Midlands MEP, who is taking on Ms James and Cllr Lowe in the battle for Stourbridge, has stressed he will not be deterred by the incident - which happened at around 12.30am on March 7 and which left windows smashed, the front door damaged and paint daubed on the front of the Coventry Street office.

Mr Carver said: “I'm humbled by the support and kind wishes I have received from members of the public.

"This politically motivated attack will not affect the positive work of my team and I, which underlines the unprecedented rise of UKIP."

West Mercia Police are investigating the attack on UKIP's office and anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 124s of 7th March 2015.

Aside from the attack, Mr Carver says "things are going very positively" and he's busy backing UKIP's Save Our Pubs campaign which includes efforts to stop a convenience store being built on the car park of the Hare and Hounds at Wollescote.

And he is holding a public meeting at the pub in Wynall Lane on Monday March 16 at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile the Green Party has selected retired civil servant Christian Kiever, aged 46, from Dudley, to stand in Stourbridge; the Lib Dems have to yet to confirm if they will be fielding a candidate in the constituency.

The next Born, Bred, Believes gig at Katie's in Enville Street will be on Thursday March 12 and will feature acclaimed singer/songwriter Leon Rosselson with support from Flat Stanley. Admission is £5.

Ian Marrey's Born, Bred, Believes track is available to buy on iTunes for 99p. Money raised will go to the Stourbridge Foundation 4 Music which aims to help young musicians.
