CREWS from West Midlands' emergency services were dispatched to deal with a suspected arson fire in Stourbridge this afternoon.

A severe blaze broke out in a Worcester Street home at about noon, with emergency services closing the road in one direction.

West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance and two paramedics to the scene, where a man in his 60s was assessed.

An ambulance spokewoman said the man did not suffer from burns or smoke inhalation and did not require hospital treatment.

West Midlands Fire Service received a 999 call at 12.02pm today and sent 13 firefighters to the scene, including one crew from Stourbridge Fire Station and one from Brierley Hill.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire with a hose reel and positive pressure ventilation fans.

Neil Spencer, spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service, said: "The incident involved a fire in the front room of a semi-detached house.

"The fire was out by 12.37pm and everybody was accounted for."

The service's fire investigators are now looking into the incident and are treating the case as “suspected arson”.
