KINVER resident Margaret Rogers has been praised by Prime Minister David Cameron for the contribution she has made to her local community.

Margaret has received a 'Point of Light Award' which recognises outstanding individual volunteers who make a difference and inspire others.

She was presented with a letter and certificate by South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson who paid tribute to her fundraising work in raising money for Kinver's BMX track.

The MP insisted: "Without Margaret's tireless dedication, the money would not have been raised and the track not been built.

"The amount of work that she put in to raise the funds is inspiring."

Margaret was a leading light in helping to launch Kinver Action Group over eight years ago to try and tackle the problem of anti-social behaviour within the village.

The group was instrumental in the creation of a professional standard BMX track that now draws in youngsters from across the county and further afield.

She was a driving force in helping to raise more than £23,000 required to build the track and also played a key part in raising funds for the skate park as well.

Margaret, who was a Kinver parish councillor for 20 years before losing her seat last year, admitted she was over the moon with the award and said: "I've known about it since January 20 but had to keep quiet, which was really difficult.

"The whole family are community-minded and my involvement is just a way of life.

"I work in my community because I enjoy it and because I want Kinver to be the best place it can for everyone. But I've been lucky because I've had good people around me to make this possible.

"Kinver is quite an isolated but close community. If you get young people involved early on, they carry on working in their community and volunteering for the rest of their lives.

"Having the BMX track has brought everyone together, people of all ages and it has become a central hub of the community. I couldn't be more proud of the work we have done and will continue to do.

"Being involved gives me a purpose and a real buzz. I've no intention of slowing down yet."
