A BLACK Country band is aiming to beat Brexit and take Europe by storm in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Spoof Abba act FABA say the UK could be heading for nil-points after Britain voted to quit the EU - unless they get a chance to raise a smile from the judges.

FABA is the latest creation from comedy trio Sue Hawkins, Deb Nicholls and Jacky Fellows - better known as The Fizzogs.

The girls teamed up with songwriter Ross Berkeley Simpson and producer John Fowler to make an album of Abba-inspired tunes including their euro song, a break-up ballad called Nigel.

Ross Berkeley Simpson said: “Making people laugh is probably the only chance we have of scoring more than zero, and nothing can make people laugh more than FABA.”

The girls say their Abba-inspired act is the best hope Britain has to avoid humiliation if European judges decide to dish out a Brexit backlash.

Sue Hawkins said: “We’re excited that OGAE UK (The Eurovision Fan Organisation) are part of the selection process, because we think we’ve got a great song, we can actually sing and our act is about as Eurovision as it gets.”

The UK has taken part in the song contest finals every year since 1959, won five times and been represented by some of the biggest British stars including Lulu and Cliff Richard.

The country has finished last three times, Liverpool duo Gemini produced the nation’s biggest flop in 2003 with their song Cry Baby, which failed to score any points.

FABA are determined to show they can deliver the Swede smell of success for Britain and have produced a promotional video to support their bid to represent the nation.

Deb Nicholls said: “Everyone needs to like and share our Eurovision promotional video so that the BBC and Graham Norton know that we exist.”

The Fizzogs are no strangers to big hits on the internet, their Dancing Grannies video was watched more than 300 million times.

Jacky Fellows, who plays FABA’s hapless manager Stella, said: “I know we’re the underdogs but if Donald Trump can win the US presidency, then why can’t FABA win Eurovision?”
