A BRAVE bobby who tackled a man wielding a large knife in a Brierley Hill street has received an award for his commitment to protecting the public.
PC Wayne Trueman quickly responded to reports of men being seen with a blade in Mill Street last November.
He spotted a suspect waving a 24cm knife in the street which left him fearing for the safety of others in the area.
PC Trueman bravely approached the man with the knife and after he refused to stop the officer sprayed him with CS type spray.
The kitchen knife was thrown into a garden and, after a foot chase, he was detained - despite PC Trueman suffering a facial injury during the arrest.
A 42-year-old man was found guilty of possessing a knife in public and jailed for three months last December.
PC Trueman was awarded a Chief Constable’s Commendation for his actions at an awards ceremony at Tally Ho last week and is pictured with the force's top officer Dave Thompson.
Sergeant Richard Galbraith, from Brierley Hill police, said: "This was a real show of bravery from PC Trueman. He was acutely aware of the risk posed to himself and others; and was prepared to put himself in danger to protect the public."
