CONTROVERSIAL plans for an aggregate recycling centre in Stourbridge will finally be decided next week after councillors adjourned a previous meeting of Dudley Council’s Development Control Committee.
Objectors to the proposal on the old Helix International site on Engine Lane will now hear if the plan will go ahead at the committee’s next meeting on May 29.
The scheme would use the western part of the former Helix site for the recycling of aggregate material.
The centre would move from an existing unauthorised site in Bott Lane which has no planning permission and is the subject of a council enforcement notice.
But the plan has alarmed some local residents who fear the centre – which would break up and recycle an estimated 40,000 tonnes of bricks, concrete and rubble – will hit house prices and cause noise and dust nuisance.
Local residents have argued the site should be used for housing instead.
Council planning officers had recommended approval of the application subject to conditions which include minimising dust emissions from the site, limiting the hours deliveries could be made and restricting the hours when machinery could be used.
