A TEENAGER was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being pulled unconscious from a pond in Stourbridge's Mary Stevens Park in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday June 18).

The youngster, believed to be 18, was taken to Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, suffering from a serious head and neck injury.

Emergency medics had resuscitated the teenager, who they found unconscious and out of the pond - known as Heath Pool - when they arrived just after 2.30am.

He was further treated on route to the hospital where a team of medics were on standby awaiting his arrival.

A police spokesman said this morning, the teenager remained in a serious condition.

Meanwhile the news has left residents in nearby Stanley Road shocked.

Norton councillor Heather Rogers told the News: "I can't remember anything like this ever happening in the park."

Fellow councillor Mike Attwood added: "I'm shocked to hear about this - it's the first time I've heard about this sort of thing happening in the park in my lifetime."

Police are investigating how the man came by his injuries and are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them at Stourbridge Police Station on 0845 113 5000.
