DUDLEY Library is to host the launch of Dudley-based writer Miriam Sarin's debut novel for young adults.

The launch at 2pm on Saturday July 22 will see Miriam reading a snippet from the book, The Test, followed by a Q&A led by local actor David Robinson.

Dudley's Mayor has been invited to the event, which will include a glass of fizz for adults.

The book, a fantasy fiction read for young adults, is a tale of power, courage and change and sees mythical beings brought to life, a supernatural world unveiled, and a very bewildered teenager fighting for survival.

Originally from Skegness, Miriam has spent most of her life in Dudley - spending 10 years in a West Midlands-based touring theatre company before gaining a masters degree in writing at Birmingham City University.

She said: "I inherited my love of story from my grandad, whose Christmas tradition was a glorious and giant sack full of books to dive into. That storytime evolved into a career as an actor, director and writer and I finally decided to follow my passion and move away from performing stories to telling them.

"I have loved writing this book and I’m so excited to be launching in in Dudley. I hope that it sparks something with my readers and that it finds its way into someone else’s Christmas story sack to enjoy."

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Andrea Goddard, said: "It’s wonderful to be here at the start of Miriam’s writing career. We’re glad we are able to support her launch event.

"I’m sure the event will be a success and I wish her all the best."

Miriam is currently offering local schools a free one-hour workshop of storytelling, and how storytelling can be used in communication.
