BOSSES at Asda have confirmed they plan to open a new convenience store on the site of an Oldswinford petrol station.

The supermarket giant is to create an Asda Express on the site of Shell fuel filling station in Hagley Road in early 2024.

Asda announced recently that it had completed the acquisition of EG Group’s UK business – which will see 356 EG Group sites - all modern convenience stores on petrol filling stations – turned into Asda Express stores.

Andy Perry, VP of convenience at Asda, said: “We’re incredibly excited to be bringing our Asda value and quality to the local community. The roll out marks an incredibly exciting moment for our business and accelerates our presence in the fast-growing convenience market.”

The store will stock up to 3,000 branded and own-label products including vital ‘top up’ shop items such as milk and bread, ingredients to cook dinner from scratch and lunch items to grab on-the-go.
