A popular martial arts club has raised thousands of pounds for a local charity.

Based in Stourbridge, Kidderminster and Stourport, Young Gloves Karate has received a staggering £3,200 in donations for Kidderminster District Youth Trust (KDYT).

The sports team raised the funds through a range of events including self-defence seminars, carnivals, quiz nights and competitions.

On November 26, the club also welcomed more than 400 children, adults, family and friends to compete in the 24th annual Interclub Karate competition.

Head Instructor and 5th Dan, Justin Thomas, said: "This latest success demonstrates the club's strength and diversity along with the benefits of training and learning a martial art with Young Gloves Karate.

"Through 25 years of experience, I'm able to work and nurture students from all backgrounds and abilities, getting to know each individual and encouraging them to make a difference to both themselves and others."

The amazing event saw everyone receive a medal with trophies awarded for first, second, third and fourth place.

There were also raffles, a tombola, prize draws and even a visit from Santa's brother 'Father Kickmas'.

The recent fundraising brings the total money raised for local children's charities to more than £80,000.

The donations will go towards providing vital services to those in the area.

Mr Thomas added: "KDYT are a great organisation who have a huge impact on young people in our area, helping them gain the life skills needed to become successful adults, which is why I had no hesitation this year in joining and supporting them.

"I'm extremely proud of what this club achieves and the way all the members, parents and helpers tirelessly come together each time I ask to make all the events of 2023 a huge success.

"I'm very much looking forward to next year, which will be our 25th anniversary, so undoubtedly there will be a lot more to celebrate in regards to karate in Kidderminster, Stourport and Stourbridge whilst continuing to support KDYT."
