A KIND-HEARTED Stourbridge schoolboy has been congratulated by the town’s MP for his fundraising endeavour for The Mary Stevens Hospice.

Stourbridge MP Suzanne Webb met 11-year-old George Chambers as he handed over a cheque for £1,700 to the hospice after completing a walking marathon.

The Old Swinford Hospital schoolboy originally set out to raise £100 for the charity by walking a marathon from the hospice to The Mary Stevens Park - a distance of one mile.

He then walked a loop going there and back 14 times – totalling 28 miles.

Gutsy George completed the challenge in 12 hours with his parents on November 4, braving pouring rain and wind to raise the huge sum.

Suzanne said: “What an honour to meet with George and hear about his adventure and commitment to this wonderful charity that is so close to the hearts of so many in Stourbridge.

“He should be immensely proud of what he has done and I know Mary Stevens is thrilled to have such a brilliant fundraiser.”

George said: “The walk was incredibly hard, but I did enjoy the challenge. I am so grateful for everyone's support and all the donations.

“I feel honoured to have been able to raise money for The Mary Stevens Hospice, it is such a special place. I am already thinking of what I can do for my next fundraiser."
