BLACK Country metal band WEAK13 recently enjoyed airtime on the BBC after releasing a satirical single, with an all-singing all-dancing music video, which poked fun at the British Broadcasting Corporation.

The song roasting the organisation ended up airing on BBC 6 and was championed by radio presenter DJ Andrew Marston along with British singer, bassist, and long-time LGBT rights activist Tom Robinson.

WEAK13 frontman and guitarist Nick J Townsend said: “The song is in many ways a tribute to early 1980s Saturday night entertainment, you’d have television personalities like Kenny Everett and Morecambe & Wise who, at some point during their show, would break the fourth wall and oust the BBC.

"It was always tongue in cheek and we’ve kind of done that musically for a modern audience.”

A music video for the tune, directed by Black Country filmmaker Billy Ghuman, was shot in London at the 02 Arena featuring frontman Nick tap dancing on the tube and playing a guitar solo in a bathtub.

He said: “I can’t really take credit for the tap dancing as that was performed in the recording studio by musician Laura Stanyer from the Staffordshire band Naked Sunday; I did have to learn her moves though.”

The band, also comprising Wesley Smith on bass, said they filmed the music video in London so they could be closer to the BBC headquarters.

Nick told the News: “We hired out a section of what used to be known as the Millennium Dome and filmed something that we thought would suit the song. There’s no malice meant; it’s just entertainment and we’re glad that the BBC got the joke.”

The single On The BBC - released via Sliptrick Records - is available on all major music platforms.

The music video can be seen on the band's YouTube page.
