ONE of Kinver’s historic rock houses is to be transformed into a tearoom of yesteryear to provide refreshment facilities at the landmark.
Makeover work is set to start on one of the Holy Austin Rock Houses - currently used as office space - to turn it into a small café.
The project will reinstate a tradition that began in the 19th century and lasted up until 1967 when the rock house inhabitants provided refreshments for day trippers.
Volunteers are being sought to help run the tearoom which will sell tea, coffee, soft drinks and cakes from August.
Custodian Mike Parker said: “This is an exciting time for Kinver as it is the first time we have had a tearoom on site.
“Visitors often remark that they would love to have a sit down with a cup of tea and a slice of cake - so we are delighted to soon be able to offer such refreshments.
‘We also hope visitors to Kinver Edge will come over to the Rock Houses for refreshments after a long walk.”
The tearoom will be open during the summer between 2pm and 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
