DEMANDS to scrap a controversial phone mast site in Kingswinford will be debated at a public meeting next week.

Campaigners from the High Acres Base Station Mast Action Group are calling for removal of a massive transmitter site on their estate which they believe may be causing a cancer hotspot.

The site, near Bartic Avenue, hit the headlines in June when an OFCOM survey revealed it was producing more radiation than any other site in England, although readings were still below UK safety guidelines.

The group, who won high profile support from TV star Jasper Carrott and leading American scientist Dr George Carlo, are holding a public meeting to discuss the issue on Wednesday September 10 at The Brier School, Bromley Lane, Kingswinford.

The meeting starts at 7pm in the school’s Main Hall, Dr Carlo will be on hand to hear from residents who say they are living in fear of the transmitters.

Organisers have also invited representatives from the telecoms industry plus Kingswinford MP and science minister Ian Pearson to attend the meeting.
