STOURBRIDGE FC will go into their FA Cup first round qualifying clash at home to lower league outfit Rainworth Welfare Miners on Saturday as red hot favourites, but manager Gary Hackett will be ensuring complacenacy does not set in.

Hackett has warned his side they will need to be on their mettle when they welcome their opponents, who ply their trade four levels below them in the Northern Counties East Division.

The manager said: “All you can ask for is a home tie against lower league opposition and that is what we have been given so we must now take advantage of this.

“We will go into the game as favourites but that does not mean we will be taking this game lightly because this is the FA Cup and there are always shock results and we must ensure our game is not one of them.

“The FA Cup is a big competition to us and as Chasetown showed last year a good run is not impossible for teams at this level.

“The cup is also key financially and a good run could be a massive boost to this club.”

The game will also see the Glassboys returning to the War Memorial for the first time this season after they were forced to play their opening three home games at rivals Halesowen Town.

To entice a bigger crowd to the cup clash the club have slashed admission prices to £5 for adults, £3 concessions and £1 for U16s Club Press Officer Nigel Gregg said: “Following our promotion to the BGB Premier Division, we felt that we had little choice but to increase our prices to fall in line with what many of the other clubs already in that division were charging, but we did say that we would look at what we could do with any home cup-ties and with the co-operation of the visitors we have been able to agree revised charges for this game.

“After a month effectively on the road we are looking forward to our first match back at Amblecote.

“We cannot afford to be complacent as Rainworth have enjoyed a good start to the season and can come to us with nothing really to lose.

“They also reached the Third Qualifying Round last year before losing to two penalties at Chasetown.

“We hope that our supporters will respond to our offer and turn out in good numbers to help see us through to the next round.”

Missing the cup clash will be Nathan Bennett (work commitments), Mark Benbow (suspended) as well as Craig Slater (knee) and Gavin Winsper (thigh) after they both got injured in Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Bashley.

Hackett again was left ruing his side’s knack of conceding sloppy goals in a game he believes they should have got something from.

He added: “It was very disappointing to come away with nothing.

“For the first 25 minutes we had quite a few chances and were dominating proceedings but once again a lapse of concentration cost us and we found ourselves 1-0 down and chasing the game.”
