Super Stourbridge slimmer plans charity cash haul

A STOURBRIDGE super-slimmer is calling on people to fight New Year flab and raise cash for a good cause.

Kerry Amos, who dropped from a size 20 to a size ten, has launched a 40-day slimathon to support children’s charity the NSPCC.

Weight loss consultant Kerry, aged 30, is encourging members of the Pedmore branch of the Slimming World group to sign up for the slimathon as they lose weight after festive feasting.

Kerry, from Oldswinford, said: “Nationally we have always supported the NSPCC because practically all our members are women, and children are close to their hearts.

“Last year the company raised £46,000 for the NSPCC, people can be sponsored for all the weight they lose, or pound for pound.”

The slimathon began at the Slimming World group meeting at St Peter’s Centre, Pedmore Lane, on Thursday January 8.

With obesity among adults and children high on the health agenda, Kerry says a sensible approach to dieting is the best way to lose weight and keep it off.

Kerry said: “Look to make small changes - they make a difference, don’t try to give it all up at once.”

Five-feet-four-inch Kerry’s weight shot up to over 14 stone when she was a student and she developed a lung inflammation illness called sarcoidosis, which also caused lesions and swelling in her legs.

Unable to walk properly, Kerry would try and lift herself in and out of the bath but had difficulty supporting her bulk.

After shedding five stone Kerry has now taken a leading role at the group to help other people lose excess fat.

Non-group members can take part in the NSPCC fundraising if they attend the meetings, which are held every Thursday at 7pm, with friend or relative who is already enrolled.
